The Freedom Team

Freedom is a team of program analysts, engineers, and strategic communicators ushering in a new generation of American space transportation systems and supporting key mission requirements that keep our homeland secure. We are developing complex systems and managing mission-critical information. We’re creating communication campaigns that inspire the spirit of exploration. We’ve helped facilitate international scientific and engineering workshops on the exploration of deep space. We have supported the transformation of information technology (IT) systems within the Veterans Administration in our nation’s capital. Leaders in federal agencies trust our team to deliver when it counts.

Colonel Susan A. Ferrera, USAF (retired)

CHief executive officer (CEO)

Susan is Chief Executive Officer and Director of Freedom Information Systems, Inc. She served 26 honorable years in the United States Air Force with expertise in executive-level leadership, organizational development and management, and staff recruitment, training, and retention.

Susan was twice awarded the Department of Defense Defense Superior Service Medal for superior meritorious service in a position of significant responsibility, and the United States Air Force Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone. She is also the recipient of numerous Department of Defense awards and recognition due to her significant work in personnel management.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography from Florida International University, a Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from The George Washington University, a Master of Arts Degree in Human Resources from Webster University, and a Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Air War College. She also completed senior executive courses with The Dale Carnegie Leadership Training for Managers, the US Air Force Senior Leader Logistics Course, and the United States Office of Personnel Management Civilian Performance Management and Labor Relations Courses.

Lawrence West

President

Lawrence is President of Freedom Information Systems, Inc.  He is a former United States Air Force officer where his career began as a Program Manager leading the development of air weapons control and mission planning systems for reconnaissance and stealth bomber aircraft.  He is a former management consultant with operational and business development responsibilities targeting both the commercial and federal sectors.  He is a former Navy Senior Executive Service member supporting the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy in the Office of Civilian Human Resources. He has also been the founder of multiple entrepreneurial ventures throughout his career. 

Lawrence holds a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Business Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from North Carolina State University,  He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Western New England University School of Business.  He is a Level 3 certified, Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act, Program Manager. He has completed senior executive courses with the Defense Acquisition University and many other federal and civilian leadership development programs in areas such as Strategic Planning, Business Operations, Data Analytics, and Human Resources Management.
